Zanzibar second VP urges continued support for Union

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR Second Vice President, Mr Hemedi Suleiman Abdulla has called on Tanzanians from both the Mainland and Zanzibar to pray for and support state leaders in their efforts to strengthen the Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar.
Speaking during the celebrations marking the 61st anniversary of the Union, Mr Abdulla urged retired government leaders, elders and individuals with knowledge of the Union to educate young people about the significance of the Union and its impact on their lives.
“I urge the people of both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar to pray for and support our state leaders to ensure continued efforts in fostering the Union,” he said.
Mr Abdulla said that the Union has led to significant progress in various sectors, including economic development, social welfare, healthcare and politics.
He stated that these achievements underscore the importance of continuing to support and strengthen the Union.
He also called on leaders, elders and other knowledgeable individuals to continue educating young people about the Union to ensure its sustainability and unity for future generations.

Mr Abdulla also encouraged the people of Mtwara Region to actively participate in the upcoming General Election later this year to elect the country’s leaders.
The Minister of State in the President’s Office (without portfolio), Captain (rtd) George Mkuchika, also said the importance of preparing for the elections.
He reassured the citizens of Mtwara that there are no plans to postpone the elections and they should get ready to vote for their leaders.
“I assure you that the General Election will take place as scheduled. Please get prepared to participate and elect the leaders of our country,” he said.
Mr Mkuchika further assured the public that the government has all the necessary resources to conduct the election and reiterated the importance of citizens fully engaging in the democratic process.
