Zanzibar Revolution @ 60: Samia, Mpango to inaugurate projects

ZANZIBAR: THE Zanzibar Revolution’s 60th anniversary celebrations kicked off this week with nationwide environment cleaning, which will be followed by inauguration or laying of the foundation stones for development projects.

The Union President Samia Suluhu Hassan and the Vice President Phillip Mpango are among leaders who will officiate the events.

Mr Hamza Hassan Juma- Minister of State, Office of the Second Vice President (Policy, Coordination and House of Representatives) asked Zanzibar residents particularly in areas where projects will either be launched or laying foundation stones, to turn up in large numbers to celebrate.

The projects include opening or laying of foundation stone for schools, hospitals, roads, and sports/football grounds among other projects estimated to be more than 61 in Unguja and Pemba Island, and that the program also include entertainments, and football tournament (Mapinduzi Cup).

“Let us celebrate together and praise our leaders for a well-done job in developing our country,” Mr Hamza said after releasing the Zanzibar 60th anniversary timetable with activities from December 20, 2023 to January 13, 2024. The Mapinduzi Day is on January 12, 2024.

Besides, Dr Samia and Dr Mpango other leaders in the list to officiate the events are Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi (host), Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Doto Mashaka Biteko, and ministers from the Union government, Ms Jenista Mhagama, Mr Juma Hamidu Awesu, Eng Hamad Yussuf Masauni, Prof Makame Mnyaa Mbarawa, and Dr Selemani Jaffo.

From the Zanzibar government, all ministers, led by Zanzibar First Vice President Othman Masoud Othman and Second Vice President Hemed Suleiman Abdulla have been assigned officiate at least one activity during the Mapinduzi month long celebrations.

Retired leaders in the list are Dr Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, Dr Amani Karume, Dr Ali Mohamed Shein, Balozi Seif Ali Iddi, and Zanzibar House of Representatives speaker Zubeir Ali Maulid and his deputy Ms Mgeni Hassan Juma.
