Zanzibar Heroes celebrate with luncheon

ZANZIBAR: Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi has invited the national football team, Zanzibar Heroes, to a celebratory luncheon at the State House today, following their remarkable victory at the 2025 Mapinduzi Cup.

The Heroes were crowned champions on Monday night after a thrilling 2-1 win over Burkina Faso at Pemba’s Gombani Stadium. Along with the trophy, they were awarded a 100m/-cash prize.

The win was particularly honoured as Zanzibar avenged their earlier 1-0 loss to Burkina Faso in the group stages.

President Mwinyi, accompanied by First Lady Mama Mariam Mwinyi and Second Vice President Hemed Suleiman Abdalla, attended the electrifying final, marking a historic moment as this year’s tournament featured national teams for the first time.
