Zanzibar conducts inspection to identify foreigners taking local Jobs
ZANZIBAR: THE Minister for Tourism and Heritage, Mudrik Ramadhan Soraga has said that foreigners are prohibited from engaging in small-scale jobs that are designated for local citizens.
He highlighted that the government is actively investigating to identify foreign workers in roles meant for locals.
In response to a question from Representative Haji Shaaban Waziri (Uzini Constituency) regarding the government’s efforts to address the long-standing issue, Mr Soraga acknowledged concerns about the growing number of foreign workers in sectors such as hotels, street vending, tourism agencies and tour guiding, the professions that offer high wages in foreign currencies.

The Minister stressed that his ministry is committed to ensuring employment opportunities are prioritised for local citizens.
He stated that his ministry, in collaboration with the Ministry of State, Office of the President (Labour, Economy and Investment), is implementing policies and strategies aimed at reducing reliance on foreign workers within the tourism sector, including hotels and other related industries.
