Zanzibar 2nd VP directs contractors to complete work in time

ZANZIBAR: THE Zanzibar Second Vice-President, Mr Hemed Suleiman Abdulla has directed contractors implementing different government projects to ensure the work they are undertaking is completed in time as per agreement.
In his speech before moving a motion to adjourn the Zanzibar House of Representatives session to November 29th, this year, Mr Abdulla said contractors have to work speedily to accomplish projects with quality or risk facing legal actions.
He also warned Government Executives who are not making follow-ups on implementation of the projects, that they would not be spared for negligence.
“We need quality work, finished in agreed period of time,” said the 2nd VP who recently visited different construction sites of several projects, including markets and roads.
He said President Hussein Ali Mwinyi is determined to see that all the projects being funded by the government with support from development partners, including projects under the International Monetary Fund- Covid-19 relief fund (for Hospitals in each district) are finished this year.
Mr Abdulla informed the House that some of the new hospitals have started operating, “I take this opportunity to direct the Ministry of Health to ensure the hospitals have enough staff and equipment to serve people well.”
The second Vice-president said the government will not hesitate to take legal and disciplinary measures against any employee who violate regulations and ethics and also urged the hospital’s staff to maintain cleanliness in and outside hospitals.
As regards to expected rains as forecasted by the Meteorological Authority, the 2nd VP reminded people to get prepared by avoiding flood prone areas, littering the environment and following weather forecasts on a daily basis, while the government’s Disaster Commission starts preparations.
