Zambia are the new champions of the 2022 Hollywoodbets COSAFA Women’s Championship courtesy of a 1-0 win over South Africa.
The two teams settled their differences in a hot finale match at Isaac Wolfson Stadium but after normal period of play, the match was goalless.
This compelled it to venture into extra-time where the Shepolopolo struck the solitary goal to claim the silverware beating the hosting side who before the match were favourites.
Earlier, Tanzania’s Twiga Stars defeated Namibia 2-1 to scoop the third slot finish after failing to defend the championship for the second time in a row.
The Tanzania envoys sourced their goals from Christer John and Aisha Juma who netted in the 12th minute and 20th minute respectively while Veveziwa Kotjipati scored the lonely goal for her side in the 88th minute.
Twiga Stars hopes to defend the COSAFA title suffered a blow after picking a 1-0 loss from the current champions Zambia in a semifinal duel.
However, the team’s Head Coach Bakari Shime says they have generated important skills which will make them stronger in the upcoming editions of the competition.
