TANZANIAN golfers have been invited to compete in this year’s Zambia Ladies Open Golf championship which tees off in Lusaka in June. Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) competition secretary Hawa Wanyeche said in Dar es Salaam on Saturday that her union received an invitation from Zambia Ladies Golf Union (ZLGU) to compete in the annual event.
Wanyeche said that the three-day 54 holes ZLGU Order of Merit battle is scheduled to tee off from June 2nd to 4th this year at the Bonanza Golf Club in Lusaka, Zambia.
She said Tanzania is among the African countries that have been invited to compete in the annual championship that is back to action after two years.
The tournament has been for several years cancelled due to the coronavirus threat. Wanyeche said that the deadline for those wishing to compete in the Zambia Ladies Open is May 28th this year.
Adding, she 30 US Dollars is set as an entry fee for the international entry, according to the organizers. Tanzania ladies wishing to compete in the prestigious event have to prepare well to beat the tough competitors, including the defending champion, Annie Nsama who won the title last year event.
Wanyeche, who also serves as the national golf team captain, was recently elected a TLGU competition secretary in the general election that also elected Queen Siraki the new TLGU president.
Wanyeche: “the Zambia Ladies Open event is one of this year’s best events in the calendars, it is good to play. “It is one of the ideal platforms in the East and Central Region that enable golfers o showcase their golf skills, we are grateful for the invitation,” she said.
Wanyeche, one of the country’s top ladies’ golfers, added that it is a preferable event for local golfers to sharpen their skills against other regional top players too. Since it is an open tournament for individual golfers, she said, the information has already been extended to members for them to consider.
The order of merit event has been pooled into four categories including Championship (handicap 0 -12), Division A (handicap 13-20), Division B (handicap 21-36) at 54 holes showdown and triers Division (handicap 37-42) who will battle for only 18 holes.
