DAR ES SALAAM: WITH the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Tanzania has witnessed an increase in digital innovations among youths, according to the Young Scientists Tanzania (YST).
Speaking to reporters over the weekend, YST Co-founder Dr Gozibert Kamugisha said increase in number of digital innovations is a good indicator that the young people are trying to keep pace with technological changes occurring in world which embraces the use of AI- related innovations.
He said this is the result of the efforts invested in nurturing scientific talents among young people in secondary schools for the past 13 years.
“Through these efforts, the level of understanding of science among secondary students countrywide has been increasing dramatically with the number of applications for science competitions increasing from 354 applications submitted last year to 361 this year,” he said.
He said this year young scientists from secondary schools have developed science and technological projects in a variety of strands of science and technology.
“Each of the science project is specifically designed to find a solution to specific local development challenge,” he said.
Karimjee Foundation Executive Officer, Caren Rowland said the foundation has been instrumental in providing not only financial support but also scholarships to the young minds participating in the Young Scientists Tanzania project.
“Through the years, the foundation has witnessed remarkable achievements and from the participants, reflecting the spirit of excellence and determination that is at the core of the initiative,” she said.
“To date, the foundation has awarded 41 scholarships to outstanding students who have demonstrated exceptional skills and dedication in their scientific endeavour’s,” she said, noting that the foundation will award other four scholarships this year.
Ms Rowland said the foundation is eager to witness the transformative impact that the winning projects will have on Tanzanians and the world at large.
Giving her testimony to media people about the success she achieved from YST, Assistant Lecturer at Hubert Kairuki University, Ms Dhariha Ali said that YST has transformed her mindset on how she thought about science and technology.
She added that YST also enabled her to grow steadily in the field of science and technology which supported her to become a certified medical doctor.
