Youth urged to seize jobs in PPP projects

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR youth have been encouraged to take advantage of employment opportunities created through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects.

Minister for Labour and Investment, Mr Sharif Ali Sharif, noted that awareness among young people about the benefits of PPP initiatives remains low.

He was responding to a question from Ms Fatma Ramadhan Mohamed (Women’s Special Seats) regarding the advantages of PPP projects.

The minister explained that, under PPP arrangements, the government provides investors implementing development projects with incentives such as tax exemptions or temporary tax reductions to encourage investment and improve public service delivery.

He said that employment priority is given to Zanzibaris and Tanzanians, with 90 per cent of jobs in PPP projects reserved for locals and only 10 per cent for foreigners.

Investors are also required to support surrounding communities through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

Mr Sharif added that between 2020 and 2025, a total of 12,244 Zanzibaris secured jobs abroad through recruitment companies 10,848 from Unguja and 1,396 from Pemba.
