Youth participation in NDV 2050 preparation emphasised

ARUSHA: THE Executive Director of HakiElimu, Dr John Kalaghe, has emphasised the importance of youth understanding and actively participating in the ongoing preparation of the National Development Vision 2050.

“There is a need for the youth to understand and fully participate in the ongoing National Development Vision 2050 by sharing their opinions and participating in the upcoming local government elections and next year’s general election,” Dr Kalaghe stated.

Dr Kalaghe made these remarks ahead of the Civil Society Organisations (CSO) 2024 meeting, which begins today in Arusha.

The meeting aims to educate youth on their participation in democratic processes.

“Youth participation in the country’s democratic processes is crucial. We will have a special session for youth during the CSO 2024 meeting and more than 70 youths from different regions of Tanzania have confirmed their attendance,” said Dr Kalaghe.

More than 600 people from approximately 500 civil society organisations (CSOs) in Tanzania are expected to participate in the five-day meeting.

The Country Director of CBM International and Chairperson of the Preparations Committee for CSO 2024, Ms Nesia Mahenge, noted that the meeting will be opened today by the Minister of State, President’s Office Planning and Investment, Professor Kitila Mkumbo.

Ms Mahenge added that around 400 to 500 civil society organisations with over 600 participants have confirmed their attendance.

Other leaders expected to attend include the European Union Ambassador, the Canadian Ambassador, representatives from the NGO Registrar’s Office and other dignitaries.

On her part, TNGP Executive Director, Ms Lilian Liundi, highlighted that CSO 2024 will provide a platform for marginalised women to voice their concerns regarding the National Development Vision 2050 and the upcoming elections.
