Youth coach leads Yanga onslaught vs FCB Nyasa

AS Young Africans await the arrival of their newly appointed head coach, Miguel Angel Gamondi, the former club star, Said Maulid will lead the team in today’s friendly game against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Bingu National Stadium in Malawi.

The club’s President Hersi Said disclosed yesterday in Dar es Salaam before his side’s departure to Malawi that the former club’s star Maulid will be in charge of the team in today’s match, which spices up Malawi’s 59th Independence Day celebrations.

Yanga squad, invited to Malawi for the game to commemorate the country’s independence celebrations, has travelled with a mixed team comprising senior and youth players.

Among the guests for the celebration is President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who landed in Malawi on Wednesday with her delegation ahead of today’s celebrations.

Speaking on Wednesday, Hersi revealed that since the invitation came during the off-season, assembling the entire squad for the trip was quite difficult; hence they opted to list a combined force of senior and youth members.

“It is an honour to have this invitation despite most of our senior squad having gone on vacation.

“The invitation is the fruit of the good bilateral relationship between our two countries, Tanzania and Malawi,” Hersi noted.

Hersi confirmed Maulid, the former Yanga player and the club’s youth Head Coach, will take charge of the friendly match following the absence of the newly appointed club’s senior team Head Coach Gamondi.

On his part, Denis Nkane also cherished the friendly match, adding it’s an important game for the team to begin pre-season.

He added they eye to win the encounter.

“We are going there to celebrate with Malawians on their independence day, but we ought to play lungs out to win,” Nkane said.

His colleague Clement Mzize said that Tanzanians should expect a lot from them as they will provide an entertaining match and win.

“Most squad members are from youth, but we are confident to give our best and win against Big Bullets,” he said.

Among the notable faces of Yanga players from the senior team who travelled include Metacha Mnata, Joyce Lomalisa, Mzize, Nkane, and newly signed Nickson Kibabage.
