YMCA Wazamani group holds historic Dar Reunion in Orlando

USA: THE YMCA Wazamani Group, led by renowned community figure, Najmool Jaffer, hosted a landmark unity event Da Reunion in the vibrant city of Orlando, Florida set to start today and wind up on Sunday.

This emotional and celebratory gathering brought together over 140 participants from across the globe – including Europe, the UK, Canada, India and the USA – all of whom once shared a connection to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Among the first to arrive at the reunion were Kanu Rathod, group leader of the Cricket Legends of Tanzania, along with senior group member Kishore Gajjar and his wife Chandrika.

Speaking at the opening, Bhavin Vaish nav, Lead Event Coordinator for Team USA, told the ‘Daily News’ that their presence set the tone for what promises to be a heartfelt and nostalgic event.

He emphasised that the event was created specifically for veterans of Dar es Salaam aged 60 and above, who are now settled in various parts of the world.

“The idea is to relive the past, reconnect with long-lost friends and family, and celebrate our shared roots,” said Bhavin.

He added that the gathering also aims to offer participants insights into the tremendous progress that Tanzania and in particular Dar es Salaam, has achieved over the years.

He also expressed optimism that during the reunion, dates for the 2026 Cricket Legends of Tanzania Reunion in Leicester, UK, would be officially announced.

Group leader Najmool Jaffer shared his hopes that the event would help open new avenues for the younger generation to stay connected with their Tanzanian heritage and actively participate in future initiatives.
