YAS,KSI Eye Centre launch a 7-day free eye care camp for Dar residents

DAR ES SALAAM: DIGITAL lifestyle and telecommunications company YAS, in partnership with KSI Charitable Eye Centre, has officially launched a seven-day free eye care medical camp for residents of Dar es Salaam as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives during the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (Sabasaba).

Speaking to media outlets on July 1, 2026, YAS South Dar es Salaam Regional Director, Robert Kaulwa said the services will be available to all members of the public who visit the company’s exhibition booth at the trade fair.

He said visitors who undergo eye examinations and are diagnosed with eye conditions will receive free treatment, professional medical consultation, and prescription eyeglasses where necessary.

“Anyone who undergoes an eye examination and is diagnosed with an eye condition will receive free treatment and professional medical advice. Those who require eyeglasses will be provided with them at no cost. Patients who need advanced treatment, including surgery, will be referred by specialist doctors from KSI Charitable Eye Centre to appropriate hospitals for further medical care,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bilal Muslim Mission Eye Camp Coordinator, Alhaj Ain Sherieff, said that since the eye care outreach programme was established, more than 300,000 patients have benefited from free eye screenings, medical consultations, medication, and prescription glasses, while others have undergone cataract surgery free of charge.

Sherieff attributed the programme’s success to the collaboration of several partners, including Bilal Muslim Mission, which provides transportation for medical equipment and coordinates volunteer healthcare workers and specialists; the UK-based Beta Trust, which fully funds cataract surgeries; and Flight Link, which provides air transport services whenever necessary.

He also thanked YAS for fully sponsoring this year’s eye camp, noting that the initiative has cost more than TZS 100 million and will enable hundreds of residents to access free eye care services throughout the seven-day trade fair.
