KILIMANJARO: YAS Tanzania, formerly known as TiGO, has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing technology as part of its strategy to enhance the country’s communication infrastructure.
The telco company has so far invested approximately 1.0tri/- in bolstering its communication network including the deployment of 4,000 communication towers and expanding extensive 4G coverage to rural areas, ensuring connectivity reaches underserved communities.
Yas Tanzania’s Chief Technical Officer, Mr Emmanuel Mallya, said “This significant investment underscores the company’s dedication to driving technological growth and bridging the digital divide in the region,” he said yesterday in Kilimanjaro as Yas employees went for Mount Kilimanjaro climbing.
Approximately 16 Yas Tanzania employees successful climbed the mountain, highest in Africa and one of the most iconic natural landmarks in the world.
The climbing is part of the company’s rebranding initiative after the telco company changed its brand name from Tigo to Yas recently.

Despite operating in Tanzania, Yas is also operating in Comoros, Senegal, Togo and Madagascar.
Yas Tanzania’s Northern Zone Director, Mr Henry Kinabo, said this climb despite being the promotion initiative to the new brand name, also focuses on promoting the Mount Kilimanjaro as a premier tourist attraction, aligning with the government’s efforts to boost the tourism sector. “We chose to convey this message by reaching the summit of this mountain which will reach out to other four operating countries,” he said
