Yas prioritses digital inclusion for economic growth

MTWARA: Yas Tanzania said on Tuesday that expanding its digital services to support small businesses, fishermen, farmers and young people is of top priority.

Yas Tanzania’s Head of Stores, Ms Sarah Sonelo made thw statement at the launch of the company’s store in Mtwara.

“The in nvestment was driven by growing demand for reliable services in Mtwara, a region with a lot of economic activities,” she said.

“Mtwara is a key economic hub for Tanzania, driven by activities such as cashew farming, fishing, natural gas, and port trade. Through this store, we are bringing services closer to our customers, enabling fast, secure and convenient transactions while supporting local economic growth.”

She added that the facility will offer a comprehensive suite of digital and financial services, including SIM registration, smartphones and internet devices.

“Our mission is to be a trusted digital ally to Tanzanians. This investment reflects our continued commitment to delivering solutions that directly improve people’s lives,” she emphasized.

Speaking at the launch event, Mtwara Regional Commissioner, Colonel Donald Msengi said the new outlet will support small businesses, fishermen, farmers, and young people by improving access to essential digital and financial tools used in daily economic activities.

“The opening of this store marks a major milestone for our region. These services will stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities, and improve the livelihoods of our people. It is a crucial step toward ensuring essential services are accessible within our communities,” he said.

Yas’ Regional Director for South and Southern Highlands, Mr Joseph Mutalemwa, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustained investment in service quality and network expansion.

“We take pride in operating one of the fastest and most extensive 4G and 5G networks nationwide. Our goal is to ensure that every Tanzanian benefits from our services. This store provides an opportunity to address challenges in the telecommunication sector while enabling greater participation in the modern economy.”
