YOUNG Africans Manager Walter Harson confirmed most of their players have returned to the team’s camp in Kigamboni, ready to drill for next season’s campaign.
As the team officially began a camp, Yanga have also announced the club’s annual day, Mwananchi Day, set to take action on July 22nd at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The defending champions have opted to stay in the country as they gear up for the busy 2023/24 season, of which they eye to stamp another remarkable success.
“Most players are back in the camp preparing for the next season. We have decided to remain at Avic Town in Kigamboni because the area suits our preparations and has all the necessary facilities to improve our squad,” he said.
Meanwhile, Yanga’s Media and Communication Manager, Ali Kamwe, disclosed that the club is still in talks with Fiston Mayele over his contract extension.
“The status of Mayele as to whether he stays or leaves the club will be concluded soon,” he said.
He then described the signing of Ugandan center-back Gift Fred as an important deal to strengthen the back line.
On Tuesday, his introduction proceeded with that of Assistant Coach Moussa Ndao from Senegal, who expects to be the right-hand man of Head Coach Miguel Gamondi.
“Our signings aim to improve the squad’s efficiency and impact the forthcoming season. We still have more players and staff to introduce, and others have departed. All these changes aim for a greater good; that’s building a solid squad,” he noted.
Yanga will have a big task to ensure they retain the treble of titles they won in the previous two seasons and the CAF Confederation silver medal.
