Yanga target top CAF group

DAR ES SALAAM: YOUNG Africans target to defeat Egypt’s Al Ahly and finish on top of the group in their last group stage match of CAF Champions’ League.

The club’s president Engineer Hersi Said revealed that at the Julius Nyerere Airport (JNIA) in Dar es Salaam yesterday that Yanga would aim to win the match against the Egyptian side.

“We understand is not going to be easy but our aim is to get the maximum three points that will help us to finish at the top of the group and set a record of winning against Al Ahly in their home ground,” he explained.

The Jangwani based side will play their last match against the defending champions Al Ahly on Friday at the Cairo International Stadium in Cairo, Egypt.

Yanga is heading to Egypt after a successful 4-0 victory against Algerian side CR Belouizdad at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam over the weekend.

Their win against CR Belouizdad helped the Tanzania envoy to progress into the quarter finals of the CAF Champions League actions with a match to play.

Al Ahly currently top the group D, with 9 points, followed by Yanga at the second spot with 8 points, CR Belouzdad with 5 points and at the bottom are Ghanaian side Medeama with 4 points.

Furthermore, Yanga’s assistant skipper Dickson Job said that they understand the game would be tough as each side wants to finish at the top, but they are well prepared to face and challenge.

“As players we are mentally and physically fit to face them, we also believe that we will come back with a win,” he explained.

Yanga’s club Media and Communication Manager Ali Kamwe said the club has traveled with 60 members, including 24 players, 13 technical staff and 23 officials.
