Yanga reap sponsorship rewards

DAR ES SALAAM: YOUNG Africans Sports Club have received 262.5m/- dividend from their main sponsor, SportPesa, as part of a contractual obligation tied to the club’s performance in the 2024/25 season.

During a press conference held yesterday in Dar es Salaam, the club’s President, Hersi Said, confirmed the receipt of the funds while lauding SportPesa’s consistency, professionalism and commitment to the sponsorship agreement.

“Our principal sponsor, SportPesa, has fulfilled their contractual obligation by handing over a dividend of 262.5m/-, a reward for the club’s exceptional performance during the 2024/25 campaign,” declared Engineer Hersi with evident pride.

He explained that the purpose of the gathering was threefold— to receive the bonus from their sponsor, to acknowledge and appreciate commendations from SportPesa; and to reflect on and share the achievements Yanga have attained over the season.

“We are here today, firstly, to receive congratulations from our main sponsors; secondly, to showcase the success we have achieved during their tenure; and thirdly, to accept this contractual bonus which reflects our excellent performance this season and strengthens our bond with SportPesa,” he explained.

Hersi further stressed that the club’s healthy relationship with SportPesa has been a catalyst for their sporting success and negotiations are already underway for a new sponsorship deal.

“Young Africans SC and SportPesa enjoy a very healthy relationship. We are currently in talks regarding a new contract. We’ve seen their commitment and, frankly, we would not wish to go anywhere else,” said Hersi. “SportPesa have never faltered in delivering what we have agreed upon. Our desire is to continue this journey with a sponsor who is a true champion.”

He also took the opportunity to express heartfelt gratitude to the leadership of SportPesa for their steadfast support over the past eight years—a partnership that has already gone through two contract cycles.

“Yanga SC is immensely grateful to SportPesa for their continued faith in us. Our relationship spans eight years now—five years under the first agreement and three under the current one,” he noted.

Under SportPesa’s sponsorship, Yanga have enjoyed a golden era, collecting trophy after trophy.

“In these past three years alone, we’ve won the Tanzania Premier League(TPL) title four times consecutively, clinched the FA Cup on four occasions, lifted the Community Shield thrice and even claimed the Muungano Cup earlier this year,” Hersi boasted.

He emphasised that these milestones are a direct reflection of the club’s strong partnership with SportPesa.

“These achievements are a mirror of the healthy and fruitful relationship between Yanga and our main sponsor. It’s a sign that our collaboration is vibrant and productive,” said the club president.

Hersi recalled a quote from the SportPesa chairman, who once said, “It is hard to let go of someone doing a good job.” Echoing that sentiment, he added, “And we say—it would be even harder to let go of a sponsor who has helped us win all these trophies.”
