Yanga: NBC Bank hails Premier League champs

PREMIER League’s title sponsor NBC Bank has congratulated Young Africans for winning again the 2022/2023 season title and has pledged to further enhance its sponsorship next season.

The bank has promised to increase motivation within the league and introduce various banking services all aimed at assisting players and other stakeholders in the sport, thereby empowering them and their respective clubs. This initiative aims to elevate the league’s status, positioning it among the top leagues in Africa and the world at large.

Speaking during the trophy’s presentation ceremony to the league champions  immediately after Yanga’s  match with Tanzania Prisons at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya,the bank’s  Director of Finance, Barnabas Waziri, assured stakeholders that they will continue to serve as the title sponsors and would also like to contribute to the broader sports sector.

“During the 2022/2023 season, NBC Bank made several improvements, including the introduction of various banking services tailored for the players and stakeholders of this league, such as insurance coverage for the players and their families, as well as bus loans for participating clubs. Additionally, we awarded prizes to the best players and the best coach each month, with the aim of boosting motivation and stimulating competitiveness,” Waziri said.

Furthermore, Waziri congratulated the team and its fans for the success, particularly highlighting the tough and competitive nature of the league, as every team had made adequate preparations without facing economic challenges, thanks to the substantial sponsorship provided by NBC Bank and other sponsors.

“The sponsorship from NBC and other partners in the league has greatly helped address various challenges that hindered competitiveness, including financial difficulties, inadequate transportation for some teams, and the lack of healthcare services, including health insurance. This step has intensified the competition within the league, and that is why we congratulate Yanga wholeheartedly for emerging as the champions in this highly competitive league,” he concluded.

While presenting the trophy to Yanga in the presence of thousands of football enthusiasts at Sokoine Stadium, Mbeya Regional Commissioner, Juma Homera, thanked NBC for their title- sponsorship and emphasised that the bank’s sponsorship has had positive outcomes for Tanzanian football.

“The sponsorship from NBC has increased the level of competition in the league and improved our football. Today, we take pride in having one of the best leagues in Africa, currently ranked fifth. I sincerely congratulate NBC for making significant contributions to our league and the overall football in our country,” he said.
