Yanga: Mayele’s heir coming soon

YOUNG Africans said they are too close to secure the signing of another striker who will add power to the team’s striking section in the upcoming season.

The defending champions are seeking the heir of their former hitman, Fiston Mayele who will not be part of the squad in the 2023/24 season.

The DR Congo marksman is said to have received lucrative offers from different clubs including Pyramid FC of Egypt after his successful career in the 2022/23 season when he sparkled in both domestic and international assignments.

Until now, Miguel Gamondi’s side banks on three strikers; Kennedy Musonda, Clement Mzize, and Crispin Ngushi who were given playing time during their 1-0 international friendly win over Kaizer Chiefs at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam recently.

“The management has listened to pleas from our members and fans about the need to inject a potential striker in the team and we are going to announce him soon,” said Yanga’s Media and Communication Manager Ali Kamwe.

Adding, he said his arrival will greatly improve the team’s scoring efficiency in the upcoming season as they aim to continue netting more goals.

“Under the presidency of Hersi Said, the management is working closely with the technical bench to make sure that we bring on board another reliable goal poacher to help the team do well in both domestic and international matches.

“We have already a good number of wingers, midfielders, defenders, and goalkeepers hence we are obliged to have a fruitful striker to make the team well-balanced,” he said.

Until now, Yanga have signed seven new players who have been added to strengthen their team and make it competitive for the tough season.

The new faces in the team are Nickson Kibabage, Gift Fred, Jonas Mkude, Yao Attohoula, Maxi Nzengeli, Mahlatse Makudubela, and Pacome Zouzoua who were paraded during the climax of Mwananchi Day.

However, the Jangwani Street side’s main competitive match to signal the start of next season will be a semifinal match of the Community Shield against Azam at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga on August 9th.

The winner of the match will face either Simba or Singida Fountain Gate who will interface in another clash.

As it stands, Yanga are still the defending champions of the Community Shield after clinching it last season courtesy of a 2-1 win over Simba with Mayele claiming a brace on the day.
