DAR ES SALAAM: YOUNG Africans coach Miguel Gamondi highlighted that despite a 2-1 defeat to Germany’s Bundesliga team FC Augsburg in their friendly match during the pre-season training camp in South Africa, his team gained valuable insights.
The match, part of the Mpumalanga Premier’s International Cup held at Mbombela Stadium over the weekend, provided a learning experience for both sides, with FC Augsburg celebrating their victory.
Yanga played their inaugural pre-season match, gearing up for 2024/25 Premier League and the lucrative CAF Champions League.
Following the game, Gamondi acknowledged its pivotal role in their preparation, stating, “The match provided valuable lessons that will enhance our readiness for the upcoming season.”
“It was a fiercely competitive game against a strong opponent who exposed us to different facets of football,” he reflected during a postmatch briefing.
“This experience is crucial in our preparation phase.”
Addressing perceptions of defensive play, the Argentine coach countered, “We demonstrated our versatility by attacking strategically when needed.”

“The players showcased true commitment to the club’s jersey and ethos,” Gamondi emphasised.
“They executed our training ground strategies effectively, which was key.” Reflecting on the previous season’s success, he praised the players’ dedication, stating, “Last season’s achievements were a result of their hard work and sacrifice.
They deserve all the credit.” Augsburg coach Jess Thorup commended Yanga for their quality football and talented individual players.
“They have fast players and scored a well-executed header, which was impressive. It was a valuable experience playing against them, and we’re now eager for our next match.”
“We controlled the first half, but they performed strongly in the second half after making substitutions. Overall, we’re pleased with our progress in preseason,” he added.
Augsburg took the lead in the 37th minute with a precise shot from left-back Mads Pedersen.
