Yanga eye quadruple silverwares

YOUNG Africans Assistant Coach Cedric Kaze has urged his charges to finish the CAF Confederation Cup mission by lifting its silverware, while Marumo Gallant’s trainer Dylan Kerr said they had learnt lessons.

Yanga will face USM Alger of Algeria in the finals of the Confederation Cup as the two teams emerged the winners in their respective semifinal matches.

Yanga, the country’s envoys sealed a 4-1 aggregate victory over Marumo Gallants of South Africa, while the Algerian team claimed a 2-0 aggregate win over ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast en route to the final.

“Of course, we are happy with the results, and this is what we have been looking for to reach at this significant stage of the competition.

“Now that we are in the finals, it is time for us to finish the job we started by making sure we win and be declared the new champions of the Confederation Cup, and we are going to prepare well for this,” he said.

He also seized the platform to thank Yanga fans across the country and those who travelled to South Africa to support the team saying their backup has greatly helped them to achieve the recorded success.

The team’s striker Fiston Mayele who netted the first goal and assisted the other in their 2-1 win over Gallants, disclosed that he was happy to be actively involved in both goals.

The DR Congo import Fiston Mayele has since netted six goals in the competition, matching Ranga Chivaviro of Marumo Gallants, who headed in the solitary goal for his team on the day.

Adding, Mayele said the assist he provided to Kennedy Musonda for the second goal was a big moment for him and that he saw his teammate (Musonda) well-positioned before gifting him a pass.

On his part, Kerr narrated that they have learnt lessons from all the matches played in the competition, insisting that they will be much better in future.

“We are out of the competition, but to be honest, we have learnt many things which are important to us as a team and will help us to achieve a lot when we get another chance to parade in the contest,” he said.

Again, Kerr said Yanga had done their homework well prior to the reverse leg match, which necessitated the visitors to explore their weaknesses.

Next, the Jangwani street giants take on Singida Big Stars in the Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) semifinal encounter on Sunday.
