Yanga coach handed tall order

YOUNG Africans coach Miguel Gamondi who arrived in the country yesterday said he is excited to join the champions and cannot wait to begin his new responsibilities at the club.

The Argentinian who replaced Nasreddine Nabi has a tough task ahead to ensure his side retain all the three domestic titles they won last season beside helping the team to perform well in the CAF Champions League.

In his brief remarks at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) in Dar es Salaam after landing, Gamondi said he was delighted to be in the country and work for Yanga.

“I followed the project of Yanga, their main objective is to do well in the Champions League and I was impressed with the presentation of their project by the club’s president (Hersi Said),” he said.

He added that after spending a long coaching career in Morocco, he has now decided to take a new challenge saying he thinks that coming to Tanzania is the best for him.

He again revealed that he had offers from Egypt, Saudi Arabia and many other possibilities but decided to choose Yanga project stressing that he is passionate about it.

“I think we can have good project here, working with youths and playing nice football to make people happy…of course, I need time to know players, country and the competitions, inshallah all is going to be well,” Gamondi said.

However, according to Yanga’s Media and Communication Manager, Ali Kamwe, the entire list of the team’s technical bench is going to be revealed any moment.

“We are going to announce the full list of technical bench staff as soon as our Head Coach arrives in the country,” Kamwe said in one of his previous interviews.

Meanwhile, the Argentinian first assignment will be against Azam in a semifinal match of Community Shield mini-tournament at CCM Mkwakwani stadium in Tanga on August 9th.

Yanga are the defending champions of the contest hence they have a task to protect it from being taken away by other teams which are also hungry to win trophies in the upcoming season.

Historically, there has never been an easy match between Yanga and Azam as whenever they meet, the encounter is always tough to both sides.

Last season, Azam and Yanga met in the Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) finale at the same venue and Yanga won 1-0 with Kennedy Musonda’s goal causing the difference.
