Yanga can write history in Rivers conquest

YOUNG Africans said solidarity is key for them to overcome Rivers United hurdle in their two-legged quarterfinal matches of CAF Confederation Cup this Sunday.

The team’s squad departed for Port Harcourt, Nigeria for the first leg match against Rivers United, a game which looks tough and highly challenging, but Yanga insisted that only unity can drive them into the semifinals.

In a press briefing in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, the club’s Media and Communication Manager Ali Kamwe called on full support from every  fan of the club saying with solidarity they can achieve more.

“This is a big and important match in our club’s history and the fact that we are beginning at away venue does not mean our fans should be excluded because they have a role to play in the success of their team,” he said.

Adding, he said doing well in Nigeria can only be achieved if they embrace total cooperation from their supporters across the country just as  they did to overcome US Monastir hurdle.

“We understand that Rivers United are a difficult team to beat especially at their home and mind you, Wydad Casablanca who are holders of the champions league lost to Rivers United when they met in Nigeria.

“As such; we deserve a massive support from our fans by including the team in their prayers so that good results should be generated from the away game,” he said.

He also seized the platform to drum for big turnout of Yanga fans in the return leg match at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on April 30th as tickets have already started to be sold.

“We want our fans to descend at Benjamin Mkapa arena in big number to boost morale of their players as confidence helps a team to win backed by thousands of their home fans.

“Tickets for the reverse leg are on the market whereby those of VIP A are sold at 30,000/-, VIP B 20,000/-, VIP C 15,000/- while Orange and common seats are valued at 10,000/- and 5,000/- respectively,” he said.

He also stressed that so far, none of their players is injured after the hectic game with Simba as such; all players are focused on the Confederation Cup encounter.

Again, he reiterated that their targets to retain the Premier League title and the Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) silverware remain intact saying they are on the right path to achieve them.

To book space with Rivers United, Yanga finished at the top of group D with 13 points from six games while the Nigerian team claimed second place in group B with 10 points.
