Yanga back in league action

YOUNG Africans face Namungo in a league fixture at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam today after their weekend’s CAF Champions League match against Al Merrikh in Rwanda.

The coaches of both teams have acknowledged the quality of their opponents and have predicted it will be a tough duel.

Young Africans Coach Miguel Gamondi, said that his charges are ready to face Namungo, citing how crucial winning is to his side.

Namungo’s Coach Cedric Kaze, noted that they are up against a tough opponent but are intent on winning.

A win for Yanga will see them commanding the helm with nine points. Namungo are seeking their first win after a winless run in their previous two games.

Namungo are placed 15th with one point after a draw and a loss.

Briefing the media yesterday in Dar es Salaam, Gamondi disclosed: “After our CAF Champions League game against Al Merrikh, we have had only two days for recovery and preparing for this match. We work hard to meet our target and that’s winning matches,” he said.

Namungo’s Coach Cedric Kaze foretold the press a difficult match, but he insisted that they are here to battle for maximum points.

“We are playing against a good team with experienced players and defending champions but that does not scare us. We aim to fight and win.

Commenting on their poor beginning, he noted: “We have begun the league poorly as we are yet to win a game. The good thing is that we have corrected mistakes that surfaced in our two opening matches,” Kaze remarked.

Two games wind up the season’s third round. Simba will play against Coastal Union at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The Tanga-based club under the tutelage of Mwinyi Zahera, Coastal  Union have had a sour start to the campaign as in their two opening games, they remain win-less to occupy 14th place with one point in the bag.

On the same day, Azam will host Singida Fountain Gate at the Azam Complex venue in one of the tense fixtures of the unfolding season.

Azam’s eye to maintain their 100 percent start to the competition while their Singida-based opponents coming from a fresh 1-0 victory in the CAF Confederation Cup over Future FC want to use the same energy to suffocate the hosts.
