Yanga, Azam intensify drills for top 16 stage

PREPARATIONS for the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup are going on well for Tanzanians envoys; Young Africans and Azam ahead of their first leg matches this Saturday.

Yanga host Al Hilal of Sudan  at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam before meeting again in Sudan on October 16th this year and the  best performer will qualify for the group stage of the tournament.

Al Hilal are expected to arrive in the city today under the tutelage of DR Congo tactician Florent Ibenge, who knows well the nature of the game venue.

Speaking yesterday, Yanga’s Information Officer Ally Kamwe expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing training sessions saying all players in the squad respond well to the programmes.

“We want to break the jinx of failing to reach the group stage of the Champions League and in order to achieve that, we ought to stamp a convincing victory on Saturday.

“We have been informing our players about the importance of this match and they are all aware of that. Reaching in the last 16 is the only way to restore back respect,” said Kamwe.

He also disclosed that their recent Premier League game against Ruvu Shooting was a good test for Al Hilal match insisting that all the shortfalls which emerged will be sorted out amicably.

“It was a good test to our technical bench since it gave us a clear vision on how to play against a team which comes with defensive approach.

“It was the game that we had to show our attacking system whereas Ruvu Shooting were showing us their defensive machinery but eventually, plan A, B and C of coach Nasreddine Nabi worked out by grabbing the triumph,” he said.

Again, Kamwe pointed out that the return of playmaker Stephanie Aziz Ki from international duty with his Burkina Faso team is an ingredient into the team as the squad is now full readying for the encounter.

He also revealed that Bernard Morrison is fit for the match saying he missed the Ruvu Shooting game due to the three-match suspension imposed on him but in Champions League, he is ready to be featured.

Entry charges for the game have been paraded as 15,000/- for VIP A, 10,000 for VIP B and C while ordinary seats will go for 3000/- in advance purchase while on the match day, the cost will be 5000/-

Meanwhile, the Tanzanian envoys in the CAF Confederation Cup,  Azam said morale in the squad is high as they aim to reach in the group stage of CAF Confederation Cup saying players are hungry to drive the team into the best 16 package of the competition.

Azam are set to leave today for Libya ahead of Saturday’s away important fixture versus Al Khadar.

The duo will meet again in the reverse leg at Azam Complex a week later.

Aside from Azam, also Zanzibar’s side Kipanga  will host Club Africain of Tunisia at Amani Stadium in the Isles on Saturday for the first leg match of the Confederation Cup.

However, in his recent remarks, Azam’s Information Officer Thabit Zakaria said their focus is to play in the group stage of the competition.

He then ruled out Kenneth Muguna and Wilbol Maseke as players who will miss the Libya trip due to sickness while the rest of them are in good health ready to fight hard for the team’s victory.
