Yanga aim ‘treble’ not clean sheet
YOUNG Africans have lifted a lid on their season’s deeds saying the principal goal is defend the three major titles they won last season and excelling in CAF Confederation Cup.
The defending champions welcome Tanzania Prisons at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam this Sunday hoping to react positively to shocking 2-1 loss to Ihefu in their previous game at Southern Highland Estate in Mbarali Mbeya.
It is going to be the 14th Premier League match of the season for them of which they have succeeded to record ten wins, two draws and one loss to accumulate 32 points and are currently at the top of the log.
In his remarks yesterday, Yanga’s Media and Communication Manager Ally Kamwe reiterated that their intention of winning back three trophies they seized last season will be accomplished despite going down 2-1 in their recent game.
“The 49-match unbeaten record was being processed on the way to achieve our target of retaining the three silverwares we clinched last term and it was not among our key priorities,” said Kamwe.
He added in football, there are three results to be obtained after a game which are winning, losing and stamping a draw as such, what happened to them was just part of the three outcomes in football.
“As a club, we continue to applaud Ihefu for their commitment on the day to stop us but I am saddened that they are not getting required appreciation from people for the good job they did.
“We are the first club in East Africa to attain a record of 49-match unbeaten status and a third club in Africa as such; a team which managed to stop us should have been praised a lot other than attacking us for the nosedive,” he said.
Commenting on their next game versus Tanzania Prisons, Kamwe predicted another difficult game saying they are facing opponents who play a defensive game while relying on counter-attacks.
“As you know, it becomes difficult to get the better of a team which embrace defensive play but that has already been identified by our technical bench and I am sure that they will provide a remedy for it,” he said.
Again, Kamwe disclosed that in camp, Yanga players have already regained winning spirit and forgot the unconvincing results of their past match at the away venue, insisting that time to smile again is back.
Meanwhile, Tanzania Prisons captain Benjamin Asukile said the 20m/- they have been pledged to be given if they defeat Yanga on the day will help a lot to fuel fighting spirit among players.
The pledge was made recently by Silent Ocean Marketing Manager Mohamed Kamilagwa who also revealed that a draw will earn Tanzania Prisons 10m/- while urging the players to approach the game seriously.
