Yanga aim to end winless run against Tanzania Prisons

DAR ES SALAAM: YOUNG Africans will be looking to return to winning ways when they face Tanzania Prisons today in a Mainland Premier League match at the KMC Complex.
League leaders Yanga have drawn their last three matches against Azam, TRA United and Mtibwa Sugar, slowing their momentum at the top of the table.
They remain first with 38 points from 16 games.
During the pre-match interview, Yanga Assistant Coach Matthew Silva told reporters that the team is determined to bounce back in the series of draws they recently recorded. “We trust all the players we have. Our results come from unity,” he said.
“We have identified some minor issues, but we intend to return to winning ways.” Silva said injuries and a congested fixture schedule had affected performances, but dismissed concerns about deeper problems.
“There are no structural issues. Injuries have affected balance, but we are still the strongest team in the league,” he said. “We have scored the most goals and conceded the fewest.” He added that the return of players from international duty had given the squad a boost ahead of the match.

“Our players are back and this gives us a good opportunity to regroup and prepare for a strong Tanzania Prisons side,” he said.
Tanzania Prisons, who are 15th with 13 points from 17 matches, are seeking a result to move away from the relegation zone. Tanzania Prisons Head Coach Shadrack Nsajigwa said his side remain firmly in the relegation battle and must keep fighting for points.
“Honestly, we are not safe from relegation. We need to work hard and continue fighting,” he said.
“This match is very important for us. Our target is to win, but if that is not possible, then we must at least get a draw.” Nsajigwa played down talk of Yanga’s recent struggles, insisting his focus was on the challenge ahead. “We know Young Africans are not an easy opponent,” he said.
“We have to approach the game with caution if we want to get a result,” he said. Yanga have a strong record in the fixture, winning 11 of their 16 previous meetings. Tanzania Prisons have yet to win, with five matches ending in draws.
