Workers’ Council meetings sought for driving accountability in workplaces

DODOMA: THE Minister of State in the Vice President’s Office, Engineer Hamad Yussuf Masauni, has stressed that Workers’ Council meetings are not mere formalities but critical platforms for driving accountability, diagnosing challenges, and sharpening institutional performance.
Opening the Vice President’s Office Workers’ Council meeting in Dodoma on April 15, 2026, Mr Masauni said such forums play a pivotal role in reviewing the implementation of duties while crafting strategies to boost efficiency and productivity.
“To enhance performance and deliver results, we must sustain a culture of unity, hard work and professionalism. Our conduct must reflect the high status of the Vice President’s Office,” he said.
He noted that the office has continued to register notable achievements, particularly in safeguarding the Union through sustained public awareness campaigns targeting various groups.

On environmental management, Mr Masauni highlighted key milestones, including amendments to the Environmental Management Act, Cap 191, to strengthen provisions on climate change, as well as the establishment of the National Carbon Monitoring Centre (NCMC).
He further emphasized the need to build stronger technical and institutional capacity, improve access to resources, and intensify efforts to mobilize funding, especially through well-prepared environmental conservation projects.
For his part, Chairperson of the Workers’ Council and Permanent Secretary in the Vice President’s Office, Dr Richard Muyungi, said the council has, since its inception, prioritized enhancing employee participation in planning, implementation and evaluation of work plans, alongside improving relations between management and staff.
“The main objective of this meeting is to involve employees in reviewing the implementation of the Office’s plans and budget,” he said.
The meeting underscores the government’s continued commitment to strengthening institutional performance through inclusive and results-oriented governance mechanisms.
