Women’s Softball team set for World Cup Test

THE National Women’s softball team jets off to Japan today for a special Women’s World Cup starting from June 2nd to 6th this year.

Tanzania is the only country that has had the opportunity to represent the African continent in the competition; it will join other countries, including Mexico, the United States, China, Japan and Italy.

Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam yesterday during the national team’s farewell event, the Sports Officer of the National Sports Council (BMT), Charles Maguzu, urged the players to proudly represent the country in the global tournament as the government has a firm trust in the team.

“Go and make us proud in Japan. We have faith in you, and you will proudly represent our nation,” he noted.

The Secretary General of the Tanzania Baseball and Softball Association (TaBSA), Alpherio Nchimbi, said the squad includes 16 players from Tanzania Mainland and Isles.

Nchimbi said it is an opportunity for Tanzanian ladies to showcase their talent, as they are set to play against all five teams in the competition.

He added that four national team players have had the opportunity for trial in the Czech Republic in two months.

The Head Coach of the team, Abubakar Nachiwa, said that he has prepared well his players technically, physically and mentally so they aim to fight and vow to return with triumph.

“I am confident with my squad but I urge sports stakeholders to support us,” said Nachiwa.

The team’s captain Mwajuma Uledi said their morale is high and they are ready for the competition.
