Women’s participation crucial for inclusive democracy
DAR ES SALAAM: A seasoned journalist and member for the Tanzania Media Women’s Association (TAMWA) has emphasized the importance of women’s participation in the upcoming local government elections, calling it essential for fostering an inclusive democracy in the country.
Speaking during a discussion on women’s roles in local government elections hosted by HabariLEO on X-Space (formally Twitter Space), Bandawe highlighted on Thursday the key role journalists play in encouraging women’s involvement.
She underscored the need to engage with women who have made significant contributions to society but remain unrecognized, as part of promoting justice, equality, and sustainable development.
“Examples show that when women are entrusted with leadership positions, they excel. This is evident from our President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, and other prominent female leaders,” she said.

“Our role is to ensure that laws and regulations that support women’s leadership are understood, applied, and communicated effectively to the public,” Bandawe said.
She further noted that there has been a noticeable increase in women’s participation in the local elections, attributing it to growing encouragement and support.
“With women comprising a larger portion of our population, they have an even greater opportunity to be involved in these elections,” she added.
