‘Women’s inclusion key to Vision 2050 attainment

DAR ES SALAAM: THE government has placed women’s inclusion in legal affairs and access to justice at the heart of Vision 2050, citing their key role in driving inclusive and sustainable development.

Director of Human Rights in the Ministry of Constitution and Legal Affairs, Ms Nkasori Sarakikya, said the approach seeks to ensure citizens access legal services without barriers and improve their livelihoods.

She said this while representing Deputy Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs, Ms Zainab Katimba, at the launch of the Wakili Women Connect Summit 2026 organised by Women Inspire Women.

Ms Sarakikya said Vision 2050 promotes inclusive growth through women’s participation across social and economic sectors, including leadership in legal institutions and justice delivery.

“It is the government’s expectation that this union of women lawyers will significantly contribute to advancing the development of women, girls, children and the nation at large,” she said.

She noted that women lawyers continue to play a crucial role in promoting justice and pledged stronger government collaboration as implementation of Vision 2050 gathers pace.

The government will also support institutions that strengthen justice, unity and peace, while urging women advocates to engage men in building a morally upright society.

Women Inspire Women Chairperson, Advocate Laetitia Ntagazwa, said the network has 236 members nationwide and aims to complement government efforts through mentorship and greater involvement of young women in legal matters.

She said President Samia Suluhu Hassan has inspired confidence among women, demonstrating their leadership potential locally and globally.

“Our Vision 2050 prioritises gender equality. Women lawyers are key to achieving this and preparing young women for leadership in various sectors,” she said.

One participant, Advocate Filomena Mwalongo, said the network will provide a strong platform for women lawyers to enhance professional networks and advance the rights of special groups.

The event brought together over 300 participants, including members of the Tanzania Legal Society (TLS), government officials, judges, prison and immigration officers, civil society organisations, the private sector and religious leaders.
