NEW DELHI, India: AHEAD of the International Day of the Girl Child, President Samia Suluhu Hassan has dedicated an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy (Doctorate Honoris Causa), conferred at India’s top university, to Tanzanian girls living in the remote parts of the country.
Delivering her speech immediately after being awarded the degree by the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India on Tuesday, the Head of State encouraged girls to work hard to realise their dreams.
“I want them to know that with hard work and commitment all glass ceilings can be turned down,” she noted.
Emphasizing on the importance of educating girls, President Samia noted that her journey to success was possible, thanks to the devotion of her late parents who saw the importance of investing in her education and supporting her throughout her career.
“I am forever grateful for my late parents who saw the importance of investing in a girl child. Taking me to school and supporting my quest in furthering my education, to my family who supported me throughout my career, who tolerated my absence in their lives and allowed me to pursue other studies in a political career,” she noted.
Meanwhile, she also acknowledged the importance and contribution of the leaders and members of her party Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Tanzanian citizens as well as her predecessors.
