Well-Wisher supports mother of nine
DODOMA: A GOOD Samaritan has donated foodstuffs and household essentials to a mother of nine from Igamba Village in Chamwino District whose struggle to raise her children, including two-year-old triplets, was reported by the Daily News in July, this year.
The donation was handed over the weekend in the presence of Igamba Village Chairperson, Mr Elias Wami and members of the beneficiary’s family, while the mother was at Chamwino District Hospital where she rushed one of her triplets for treatment following health complications.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr Wami thanked the donor for responding to the family’s difficult circumstances, saying the woman’s husband is imprisoned at Isanga Prison in Dodoma.
He also appealed to other well-wishers to extend support to the family as the mother continues to struggle to provide for her children. The Daily News, together with Tanzania Standard Newspapers (TSN)’s social media platforms and websites, reported in July that Rehema had become the family’s sole breadwinner after leaving the family home following her husband’s imprisonment.

Living in a relative’s house and surviving on casual labour, she has struggled to meet her family’s basic needs, leaving six of her school-age children out of school despite the government’s fee-free education policy.
Whenever she finds temporary work, the older children are forced to remain at home to care for their younger siblings, including the triplets. Igamba Village Executive Officer, Ms Loveness Kimambo said Rehema had been enrolled in Save the Children’s Goat Project, which provides milk to breastfeeding mothers, but the assistance was not enough to meet the family’s growing needs.
“We have occasionally mobilised food donations from villagers, but the family urgently needs more support, especially to enable the children to attend school,” Ms Kimambo said.
