PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has said the sixth phase government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan has recorded tremendous achievements in the provision of water services in both urban and rural areas.
The Premier said this in Dodoma on Friday during a one-day seminar to Members of Parliament. The seminar was organised by the Ministry of Water, aiming at enlightening lawmakers on what the government had so far done in supplying water services in the country.
According to Mr Majaliwa, in the provision of water services, within two years that Dr Samia has been in office, the party’s manifesto on the area of water services had been fully implemented.
“Even when the President was inaugurating the Parliament, she insisted on her government’s quest to seeing water service provision in the country is attained,” he said.
“I wish to use this platform to commend Dr Samia for the directives that she has consistently been providing to the Ministry of Water on the fast tracking of implementation of crucial water projects,” he insisted.
According to Mr Majaliwa, water was a precious liquid needed by all human beings and other animals, thus directing the Ministry of Water to ensure that water services were brought closer to people.
He further paid tribute to the Ministry of Water for coming up with an idea to convene all legislators at a seminar seeking to open their eyes on what the government was doing to ensuring that water services were available for all.
“Recently, I tabled the budget for my office for the 2023/2024 financial year and I remember that almost every lawmaker who stood up during the debate was touting for water services in his/her constituency,” he added.
Earlier in his remarks, Minister for Water Jumaa Aweso said that ahead of the tabling of the 2023/2024 budget for his ministry, his team thought it was prudent to convene all MPs so that they could be given snippets on what the water sector had so far done.
During his presentation to MPs, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Water, Engineer Cyprian Luhemeja said that his ministry had so far recorded several achievements, among them implementation of several water projects.
