Waste management project to benefit youths

POWER Learn Project (PLP) Tanzania has launched a waste management solution hackathon to provide youths with access to cutting-edge technology resources key for job creation.
PLP Project Leader Zainab Abdallah said that the project was introduced in the country last Saturday and went concurrent with a hackathon event that centred on addressing waste management challenges head-on while fostering a culture of conservation and sustainability.
“We believe in complementing the ongoing efforts of the government and other stakeholders to create a cleaner and greener Tanzania,” she said.
PLP organised a one-day event dubbed ‘Power Hacks: Waste Management Solutions Hackathon in Tanzania’ aiming at fostering innovation, collaboration, and creative problem-solving among the youths to address waste management challenges while advocating for conservation and sustainability.
PLP currently has a presence in over five African countries and an estimated 10,000 software developers in training, with its first cohort of 1000 graduating last December.
The developers are then provided with several pathways ranging from upskilling to jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities.
As an advocate of conservation, PLP recognises the urgent need to address waste management issues in the country.
The hackathon will bring together a diverse group of talented individuals, including tech enthusiasts, environmentalists and aspiring change-makers, to develop innovative solutions.
Participants will have the opportunity to unleash their creativity and technical expertise, working in teams to design practical and scalable waste management solutions.
The hackathon will provide participants with access to cutting-edge technology resources, mentorship from industry experts and networking opportunities with like-minded individuals.
The event will not only cultivate innovative ideas but also nurture entrepreneurial spirit, encourage participants to transform their concepts into tangible solutions that can bring real impact.
To ensure a well-rounded experience, the hackathon will feature educational sessions, inspirational talks, and interactive workshops on waste management, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.
The activities will equip participants with valuable knowledge and empower them to become advocates of change within their communities.
Launched in April last year in Kenya, PLP is a Pan African organisation working to drive transformative change by empowering youths through providing quality, affordable, and decentralised software development and smart technologies training and opportunities.
