Wasira: Shun internal conflicts
DODOMA: CHAMA Cha Mapinduzi Vice-Chairman (Mainland) Stephen Wasira has called on party leaders to shun internal conflicts and ensure the party becomes a refuge for the poor.
Wasira said that the party’s meetings should address people’s problems including those of various groups rather than focusing on personal issues of specific individuals in the society.
He made the call while addressing party members and Tanzanians in general after getting a warm reception from party members and other residents in Dodoma following his recent election to the new position of CCM Vice-Chairman for Mainland.
Wasira was announced as CCM Vice- Chairperson (Mainland) on Friday by the party’s National Chairperson President Samia Suluhu Hassan after garnering 1,910 votes out of 1921 votes cast, equivalent to 99.4 per cent. Mr Wasira succeeds Abdulrahman Kinana, who resigned in July last year.
“Our meetings should discuss the problems facing people … we have people in various groups such as bodaboda riders, farmers, people with disabilities, workers and in other regions we have groups of fishermen and pastoralists, CCM and its agenda must address the problems facing these groups,” Wasira insisted.
He stressed that party leaders must remain attentive to the concerns and challenges facing the people so that both party members and citizens view CCM as their refuge and source of support and comfort.
Wasira insisted that “our party must prioritise listening to the people and understanding the challenges they face. It is critical that the party instills confidence in its members and the general public so that people can get assurance that if they come to CCM they are sure of finding solutions to their problems.”
Wasira also stressed the importance of unity among party members to ensure CCM achieves a land slide victory in the upcoming General Election scheduled for later this year.
He said that CCM has no reason to lose the upcoming General Election, given its large membership base across the country but it has faced defeats in some areas due to a lack of unity.
“As of now, throughout Tanzania, we have 12.5 million registered members in our database, while the total number of voters is 31 million. We will start with our 12.5 million members and then reach out to our supporters to add to our votes,” he said.
He further said that the ultimate goal of CCM is to run the government because it has policies that uphold people’s rights- the right to provide our people with education, healthcare, water and technologies that improve their lives.
He said 60 years after independence CCM has done a great job in transforming Tanzanian people, thus the work of transforming, serving and overseeing development must continue and cannot be interrupted by individuals who lack policies.

In his vote of thanks after being elected last weekend, Mr Wasira outlined key priorities for his new role, including focusing on strengthening the party to secure a landslide victory in the upcoming General Election and promoting reconciliation.
He insisted on the two core roles of the party as outlined in its manifesto, particularly in Article Five: winning elections and securing power at all levels in local government and general election in both Mainland and Zanzibar.
Mr Wasira urged CCM cadres to prepare thoroughly to ensure the party excels in the upcoming General Elections slated for October this year.
Mr Wasira also made it clear that he will promote reconciliation as one of the 4Rs philosophy of President Samia, taking into account that CCM is a party of unity, peace and reconciliation, which are fundamental for bringing development to the country.
“I want the world to know and for CCM members to understand, that our party stands for unity, peace and reconciliation. These are our core values. We have been entrusted with this country to foster development, but this can only be achieved through peace,” Mr Wasira was quoted in his vote of thanks.
