Warioba hails CCM’s anti-corruption drive

DAR ES SALAAM: FORMER Prime Minister, Judge (rtd) Joseph Warioba has praised the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) for its decisive stance in combating corruption during elections.
Judge (rtd) Warioba was speaking during his meetSamia: Come out, contest ing with ruling party Secretary General, Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi who visited him at his residence in Dar es Salaam.
Judge (rtd) Warioba also shared his views on the recent constitutional changes made by CCM at its extra-ordinary General Meeting, which included reforms on the process for selecting candidates for councillor, representative and parliamentary positions by increasing the number of voters in opinion polls.
He said since the fight against corruption is not a one-time event, the ruling party must ensure the battle is ongoing by adhering to the principles on which the party was founded.
He noted that the party has an obligation to continue giving Tanzanians hope by providing quality leadership that will steer the country into the right direction.
“What you have started is good. In the long run, we will see light in the fight against corruption. I was very interested to know the changes made to the party’s constitution, given the fact that I couldn’t attend the meeting in Dodoma. It’s very important for CCM to continue upholding its principles, including honouring promises made to its members and the citizens at large,” he said.

He added: “This fight is not a one-day battle; it’s crucial for the party to always seek ways to prevent corruption by adhering to its principles. People should talk about the qualities and ethics of leadership, not money. Historically, CCM is a party of ideology, policies and manifestos. It has a responsibility to show where we are leading the people.”
Judge (rtd) Warioba expressed confidence in the party’s efforts to combat corruption, urging leaders and all members to remain committed to the fight.
He stressed the importance of providing education and ensuring that both members and leaders, especially at the grassroots level, fully understand the dangers of corruption.
“Political parties in the country should distinguish themselves through their policies and vision for serving the people, rather than focusing primarily on strategies for gaining power,” he said.
Judge (rtd) Warioba also highlighted the importance of CCM in maintaining and enhancing its culture of embracing new ideas to better address the needs and wellbeing of the people.
In another development, Mama Maria Nyerere called on CCM to continue fulfilling its role in overseeing both government administrations to ensure the nation embraces its self-reliance stand, particularly in food production.
Mama Maria made the remarks on Thursday during her meeting with Dr Nchimbi, who visited at her Msasani residence in Dar es Salaam.
“I urge you to continue overseeing CCM’s core policy of self-reliance… the nation’s independence is fully realised when the nation is self-reliant, especially in food production and ensuring access to it,” said Mama Maria.
