YOUNG Africans Head Coach Miguel Gamondi has promised the team’s fans a quality and highly entertaining game in their today’s international friendly encounter with Kaizer Chiefs at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in the city.
Yanga host Kaizer Chiefs in a game to mark the climax of the eventful Wananchi Week in an event that witness the club parades its formidable squad for the coming 2023/24 season.
“Yanga fans will enjoy a quality game from their team in their epic game against the South African giants, Kaizer Chiefs,” he said during his press briefing in the city yesterday.
Prior to the game to be staged at 19:00, Yanga will parade new players who serve the team in the coming season.
Gamondi said the ten-day Wananchi Week started with eight players before others joined the team’s camp afterwards.
“The squad is complete now as everyone is in the camp now,” he said.
“Though we are playing among the continental giants we will make sure every player gets a chance to showcase his skills,” he added.
He promised to give Yanga fans the kind of entertainment they deserve despite the match being among the preseason drills.
He said he sees the soccer culture in Yanga like that of Argentina where he hails.
He, however, admitted to see a big pressure in the coming season as Yanga fans want to see the club perform better than the last season.
“The pressure mounts and that is created by the success the team achieved last season. Yanga had the best season in 2022/23 and that has heightened the club’s status internationally,” he explained.
He said he and his players are obliged to go further than where they reached last season despite the fact football is unpredictable as anything can happen in between.
The 2022/23 was a banner season for Yanga after winning treble of titles in the domestic assignments.
They began their onslaught with the Community Shield and then won the Premier League title and completed the season with Azam Sports Federation Cup.
The team had a bright performance at the continental level tournament. They won silver medals in the CAF Confederation Cup after finishing o overall runners as the finalists.
Mwananchi Week celebration was launched six days ago at Furahisha grounds in Mwanza ahead of its official climax today.
Various entertainers will brighten the day today.
