VP satisfied with Uhuru torch launch preps

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR Second VicePresident, Mr Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of preparations for the national launch of the Uhuru Torch race, currently underway at Gombani Stadium in Pemba.

He made the remarks recently after inspecting the venue and receiving a briefing on the preparations for the national event, scheduled to take place today at Gombani Stadium in South Pemba region.

Mr Abdulla said most of the preparations have been completed, and directed that minor outstanding issues be finalised while ensuring all planned activities proceed as scheduled.

He also called on residents of Pemba to turn out in large numbers to participate in the event, describing it as a great honour for the Island, particularly South Pemba, to host the national launch.

Meanwhile, the Director of Youth Development in Zanzibar, Mr Shaibu Ibrahim Mohammed, said final preparations were underway and thanked both governments for selecting South Pemba as the host of the 2026 Uhuru Torch launch.

He urged residents to attend in large numbers as a show of appreciation for the trust placed in the region.
