VP Mpango urges for diligence in development projects

KIGOMA: VICE President Dr. Philip Mpango has called upon Tanzanians involved in government development projects to work diligently, emphasizing that their successful implementation will bring significant benefits to citizens nationwide.

Dr. Mpango made these remarks on Wednesday during his inspection of the construction progress at the Western Zone Hospital and Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) Campus in Kigoma Ujiji Municipal Council.

“The government will ensure that all development projects implemented in the country are for the benefit of citizens. Work hard for the benefit of the region and country as whole,” Dr Mpango told citizens who participate in project construction.

A total of 4bn/- has been allocated for implementation of these projects during the 2024/25 financial year.

The government expects to spend 16tri/- from the 49.35tri/- national budget estimates for the 2024/25 financial year for development projects.

He said the projects are important for the development of Kigoma region and the entire western region in general.

Dr Mpango commended MUHAS for the good work of preparing the construction of Kigoma Campus through the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET).

He directed the authorities in Kigoma Region to protect the areas allocated for the construction of development projects to avoid being invaded and causing conflict.

He also directed Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) to manage the construction of roads in the area to facilitate the delivery of construction materials during the implementation of the project.

Moreover, the Vice President inspected and received report on the development of the building and expansion of the Kigoma Airport which is constructed in the region.

The airport expansion work involves the passenger building, the aircraft runways, the control tower, the lights and the entry and exit roads of the airport.

The project is slated for completion in December 2025. Meanwhile, Dr Mpango said the Ministry of Home Affairs has been instructed to expedite issuance of national Identification (ID) cards to solve challenges that citizens go through in various parts of the country.

The Vice President made statement while speaking to the residents of Mnanila area in Kigoma Region.

He said lack of ID deprives various opportunities of citizens including the lack of employment in the projects implemented in the region.
