VP Mpango to presides over 41st Bagamoyo Festival

VICE President, Philip Mpango is expected to grace the 41st International Bagamoyo Arts Festival scheduled for Nov. 10 – 12 this year, Permanent Secretary in the ministry of Culture Arts and Sports, Dr. Hassan Abbas announced on Thursday.

Dr Abbas told reporters that this year’s festival is expected to be a wonderful and unique celebration with recent intervention by President Samia Suluhu Hassan to back-up traditional and arts.

“This festival brings the world to Bagamoyo. It will be historical,” he said. The festival is expected to be spiced by groups from different countries including Canada, Zambia, Kenya, Mayotte Islands and many other local artists.

The International Bagamoyo Arts Festival is the largest and most important cultural festival on the Tanzania mainland that takes place annually in October or November and is a colorful mix of music, theater, dance, acrobatics, discussions and exhibitions.

The festival marked its first existence in 1982, one year after the Bagamoyo College of Arts (TASUBA) was founded.
