VP calls for youth inclusion on drafting Vision 2050

DAR ES SALAAM: Vice President Philip Mpango has called for greater youth involvement in drafting Tanzania’s new National Development Vision of 2025-2050.

Speaking at the inaugural conference in Dar es Salaam, Dr. Mpango emphasized the importance of including the youth, citing the 2022 population and housing census, which indicates the group forms the largest population in the country.

Their participation, he noted, is crucial for shaping a future that meets their aspirations and harnesses their potential for national development.

According to the population and housing census, youth and children aged between 0-35 years are 77.5 percent thus for the next 25 years the group must be prioritized.

“The need of the group in terms of fresh knowledge, work skills, art and entertainment, startups and smart agriculture must be highly considered when drafting the vision,” Dr Mpango said.

Earlier in February this year, the VP demanded Planning Commission officers to ensure the country obtains a feasible National Development Vision 2050.

In an official meeting with the Planning Commission Executive Secretary Dr Mpango directed the planning experts including from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) to perform their responsibility of preparing the vision 2050 diligently.
