VP calls for concerted efforts on environmental conservation

MBEYA: VICE-PRESIDENT Dr Philip Mpango has urged organisers of public education programmes to place greater emphasis on raising awareness and fostering community participation in environmental conservation and management.

Dr Mpango made the call during the closing of the 109th annual meeting of public education programme producers in Mbeya.

He stressed that promoting environmental conservation and the use of clean cooking energy is a crucial task that demands a collective effort, involving the media and all relevant stakeholders.

He urged the media to prepare and run programmes on cleanliness, environmental conservation and the use of clean energy.

“Issues related to environmental conservation and the use of clean cooking energy must be key part of our programmes, rather than waiting for events such as disease outbreaks, forest fires or floods to occur,” he said.

The Vice-President urged public education programme producers to make greater efforts to learn more and provide accurate information about the significant advances in science and technology taking place worldwide.

He said: “this will help to inspire Tanzanians to embrace emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics and the safe use of the internet.”

Moreover, Dr Mpango advised internet users to adhere to the ethical standards of the media sector, laws and the customs and traditions of Tanzania that protect human dignity and respect.

He explained that some social media users share information without regard for the dignity and respect of others, often using harmful and demeaning content.

He also urged all public education programme producers to ensure proper and accurate use of Kiswahili language.
