Volunteerism unlocks employment opportunities
UNITED Nations Volunteers’ (UNV) Country Coordinator, Mr Christian Mwamanga, has urged citizens including students at higher learning institutions to cultivate volunteerism culture to tap into employment opportunities within and abroad.
Mr Mwamanga made the statement during the seminar which was held recently at the Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT).
The seminar was organised by the UNV to advocate for volunteering among students.
Mr Mwamanga urged students to sharpen their skills including the communication skills if they dream to work with the UN agencies which require staff to master the art of languages including English, France as well as Kiswahili.
“To harness UN employment opportunities at international level it needs you to develop commitment, accountability, diligence, passion and professionalism for delivering services at best from within your community, national to international level,” said Mr Mwamanga.
For her Part, UN Volunteer National Specialist Serving in UNICEF Tanzania as education office, Ms. Judith Kiwale urged citizens including youths at university to be proactive in applying different vacancies announced by UN as well as keeping updating their job application profile including their Curriculum Vitae (CV) which can helps them catch employment opportunities on time shortly after being released.
“Let us use the digital space wisely in our smart phone to search different UN vacancies, remember information is power, every youth must be sharp to secure opportunities in the competitive world” noted Ms. Kiwale.
SAUT’s Dean of Students, Mr Liberatus Revocatus, told the Daily News that the seminar organised by the UNV is the blueprint for students to understand in detail on how the UN agencies operate and how they can be part of UN volunteers while they continue with their studies and for the future after graduating.
Mr Revocatus urged students to translate their knowledge they obtain at the university into real life experience by starting volunteering for sake of building foundation for career development as well as future national and international employment opportunities.
