VODACOM Tanzania has provided 1,504 mobile phone Simcards to the police force in Kilimanjaro Region to supports efforts to strengthen security in the region particularly during this festive season.
This was said by Vodacom Tanzania representative, Mr Nathan George during the launching of the Year-End Holiday Season held here recently.
Year-end holiday season is an event organised by the Kilimanjaro Development Forum (KDF) that aims at bringing together residents of Kilimanjaro who return to the region for the end of the year holidays.
“The contribution is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme that will ensure police officers within the region were subject to reliable communication at all times, guaranteeing citizens security,” he said.
He said that through the programme, police officers in the region would be connected to the communication system network through a programme known as Closed User Group (CUG) whereby they (police officers) will have direct communication with each other for free and thus provide any kind of help where needed when a challenge related to security issues arises.
“Those police who already have Vodacom lines will be connected to this system through their Simcards and this system will be permanent even after the holiday period,” he noted.
The Kilimanjaro Regional Police Commander (RPC) Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Simon Maigwa commended the KDF management for coming up with the idea.
“Let me assure the residents of Kilimanjaro region that during the whole period of the festive season the police force will be there to ensure adequate security for the people and their properties”, he said.
