DAR ES SALAAM: Entrepreneurs have been encouraged to join the micro business (Vibindo) platform, a new initiative designed to help members formalize and expand their microbusinesses.
The platform offers a wide range of services aimed at improving access to essential resources like markets, business premises, and financial services, with the ultimate goal of increasing employment and reducing poverty.
The Chief Business Officer at the Regional Commissioner’s office in Dar es Salaam, Thabit Massa, said the platform would not only help entrepreneurs pay the appropriate taxes but also provide access to business premises and affordable office spaces.
This will make it easier for entrepreneurs to establish and operate their businesses efficiently.
“Micro and small businesses play a significant role in driving economic growth, particularly in developing countries. By formalizing their operations through the Vibindo platform, entrepreneurs can gain access to financing opportunities and business support services that are crucial for business growth,” Massa stated.
He added that the platform would foster a more supportive environment for entrepreneurs, contributing to job creation, economic stability, and poverty reduction.
Vibindo’s Chairperson, Gaston Kikuwi, also spoke about the platform’s benefits, stating that it will assist business owners in formalizing their operations and provide association executives with access to financial information about businesses and their members.

He highlighted that a group from Ilala has already successfully registered, and the next plan is to extend the initiative to the Morogoro and Lindi regions.
The platform also allows entrepreneurs to connect with new markets, increasing their customer reach and enabling them to expand their operations. Kikuwi stressed the platform aims to empower youth, with 65 per cent of its members being young entrepreneurs.
“We are dedicated to providing the support and resources needed for their success,” he said.
He added financial services offered by Vibindo are also designed to help entrepreneurs secure the funding they need to scale their businesses. Access to loans, grants, and other financial products is crucial for microbusiness growth, but many small business owners struggle to access these resources due to a lack of formalization.
International Labour Organization (ILO) National Project Officer, Glory Blasio, praised the Vibindo platform for offering training, mentorship, and access to vital resources. “The platform will help young people start, stabilize, and grow their businesses. By investing in the next generation, the platform will enable innovation and economic growth in Tanzania’s informal economy,” Blasio stated.
Through its comprehensive support and resources, Vibindo seeks to empower entrepreneurs, particularly the youth, and drive meaningful economic progress in Tanzania.
