VETA trains 276 Kongwa women in economic skills

DODOMA: A TOTAL of 276 women in Kongwa District, Dodoma Region are set to benefit from a special vocational training programme designed to enhance their economic and entrepreneurial skills.

The programme has been designed to support President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s ongoing efforts to uplift underprivileged women across the country.

Kongwa District Commissioner, Mr Mayeka Simon, made the announcement during the official launch of the ‘Wanawake na Samia’ training programme held recently in the district. He commended the strong turnout and willingness of women in the district to acquire skills that would enable them to become self-reliant.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Director General of the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) for agreeing to support this programme by offering short-term skills training through its centres nationwide,” he said.

Mr Mayeka called for the continuation of both short- and long-term training programmes, stressing their importance in complementing President Samia’s vision of liberating women economically, particularly those from vulnerable backgrounds.

He urged participants to make full use of the opportunity by embracing creativity and innovation in their respective fields.

“VETA is the right place to learn and grow. I encourage all women participating in this training to remain focused and committed, as the skills they acquire will significantly enhance their livelihoods,” he said.

For his part, Kongwa District Executive Director, Mr Sozi Ngate urged the trainees to become ambassadors of the programme by inspiring and encouraging other women to enrol in future training opportunities.

Meanwhile, Acting Principal of VETA Kongwa, Mr Modestus Msakananu said the ongoing special training spans two weeks and covers various areas including tailoring, driving, decoration, hairdressing, electrical installation, computer literacy and masonry.

He confirmed that all 276 women have already commenced their training as planned. The initiative is part of broader national efforts to empower women with practical skills, promote self-employment and contribute to the country’s economic development agenda.
