Veronica Nduva: New EAC Secretary General
ARUSHA: The East African Community (EAC)’s Summit of EAC Heads of State has endorsed Kenyan national, Veronica Nduva, as the new Secretary General of the bloc.
Tanzania’s Foreign Affairs and East African Community Minister, Mr. January Makamba, revealed this on Friday via X (formerly Twitter) while congratulating the newly appointed EAC leader.
“The Summit of EAC Heads of State appointed Ms. Veronica Nduva from Kenya as the SG of EAC. We congratulate her and commit our support,” Makamba stated.
Veronica is taking over from Dr. Peter Mathuki, who was recalled by the Kenyan Government.

According to Makamba, the Summit has also directed MFA and EAC Ministers to undertake a retreat to discuss members’ relations and report back.
Tanzania is expected to host the retreat.
Who is Veronica Nduva?
Prior to her new role, according to The Star, Ms. Nduva was serving as the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Performance and Delivery Management at the Ministry of Public Service in Kenya. She was assigned to the position following the reorganization and reconstitution of Ministries/Departments by President Ruto in October 2023.
In April of this year, Kenya’s Head of State William Ruto nominated Veronica Mueni Nduva for appointment as the new Secretary General of the East African Community by the Summit of the Heads of State.
