‘Utilize TBS to expand businesses’

KARAGWE District Commissioner (DC), Ms Julieth Binyura, has appealed to entrepreneurs in Kagera region and all Tanzanians to utilize services offered by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS), to expand their businesses.

She made the remarks on Monday while opening a one-day workshop attended by 30 entrepreneurs held at Kayanga Township, in Karagwe District.

“President Samia Suluhu Hassan is keen on improving the livelihoods of entrepreneurs while the government was setting aside at least 300m/- every year for the purpose. “ I,  hereby appeal  to entrepreneurs in Kagera region and all Tanzanians to utilize services offered by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS), to expand their businesses,” she said.

However, Ms Binyura warned the entrepreneurs to avoid engaging in unlawful activities including selling banned local liquor including “gongo”, saying: “Brewing gongo is unlawful…thus avoid  producing it but instead engage in lawful activities.”

TBS Zonal Manager, Mr Joseph Ismail, informed her that TBS was keen to assist entrepreneurs to get TBS mark on their products.

“TBS has already opened Zonal offices and  a laboratory in Dodoma City  while more efforts were being made to open another laboratory in Mwanza City,” he said.

He explained that the workshop was in line with government plans to support entrepreneurs and enable them to pay the   right taxes.

He appealed to the entrepreneurs to ensure that they keep proper records of their sales for audit purposes while assessing the right taxes.
